Internship pays off
Crediting TCEM professors with providing support and encouragement, Lindsey says the faculty really opened her eyes to all of the career possibilities within the major. She’s supplemented her course work with opportunities to gain practical experience, including an events internship with the Indianapolis Humane Society. After working as a contract staff member for destination management company Accent Indy during her freshman year, Lindsey approached the firm about a summer internship, and she was hired. Impressed with her performance, Accent Indy management extended Lindsey’s employment through the fall and nominated her for the McGowan Super Service Award, a TCEM scholarship focused on customer service. Lindsey wrote an essay for the application and participated in a required interview.
“I was so excited—and kind of surprised,” says Lindsey of winning the McGowan Award. “I really wasn’t expecting it and am so appreciative.”
