For anyone yearning to work in the world of sports, an internship with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) in the month of May is the stuff dreams are made of.
For Elliott Hendrick, it was reality.
Raised near Anderson, Indiana, Elliott, a sports management major, had never attended the Indianapolis 500 and had only visited the track once prior to accepting his internship in January 2016. Looking to fulfill his degree requirement, he viewed the job as a guest experience intern as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity from the very beginning.
“I interviewed with the IMS and just really fell in love with it,” says Elliott. “As a member of the guest experience team, I was involved with a wide variety of departments that contribute to ensuring fans, visitors and employees have the best experience possible.”
For areas such as hospitality and suites, safety patrol, traffic, and garage and pits, Elliott assisted with hiring and work schedule coordination in the days leading up to the race.
