A PETM student and staff member received accolades last week at the Meeting Professionals International (MPI) Indiana Chapter’s IMPRESS Awards. IMPRESS (which stands for Indiana Meeting Professionals Recognizing Excellence & Statewide Success) recognizes members for their commitment, service, and involvement in the chapter, community, and industry at large.
Maria Meschi, PETM’s Assistant Director for Communications, received the President’s Award in recognition of her creativity and innovation in the role of the chapter’s VP of Communications. The award, which is given at the discretion of the chapter president, recognizes an individual who has provided him/her with exception support.
Stephanie Dillion, president of the MPI Indiana Chapter, selected Meschi for consistently demonstrating authenticity and a willingness to help make the chapter better. “She does so with a level of creativity, passion, and honesty that I admire, because she cares so much about our industry. We wouldn’t have made the progress we’ve made in the last four years without her,” Dillon says.
Meg Lanham, a Tourism, Conventions, and Event Management (TCEM) student, received the chapter’s scholarship for students pursuing a career in the meetings industry, which includes a complimentary MPI membership. Lanham will be serving as the Vice President of the MPI Student Chapter at IUPUI for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year.
Erica Shonkwiler, Lecturer for the TCEM department and faculty advisor for the student chapter, is proud of the recognition for the school and department, “Both of the awards are very prestigious and only given to one person per year.” Shonkwiler and Meschi, both alumni of the TCEM department, serve on the MPI Indiana Chapter Board of Directors alongside three other TCEM graduates. Through membership and volunteerism, the chapter and department work together to ensure opportunities for IUPUI students and graduates in the Indiana meetings industry.
