Biography

Dr. Godwin Charles Ogbeide is an Associate Professor in the Department of Tourism, Conventions, and Event Management (TCEM). He graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with both his BS and MS degrees with emphasis in Hotel and Restaurant Management, and a PhD with emphasis in Hospitality Administration and Leadership Development. He also has an M.B.A. degree with over 25 years’ experience in the hospitality industry. During this period, He served in the hotel, meetings and events, food and beverage, and event tourism/production companies. He is an active member of many professional organizations and active board member of various non-for-profit organizations. He is well recognized in many national and international organizations, and served as a leader on many committees and boards. He is a published author, public speaker, and winner of international and national awards including teaching excellence, research excellence and innovation awards.

His research interests are in the areas of strategic management and hospitality delight; as well as the implications of leadership policies and marketing strategies on stakeholders’ behavior and satisfaction in the hospitality and tourism industries. Prior to the IUPUI, he was an Assistant Professor at Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU), where he was one of the founding faculty members of the Hospitality Management Program. During his career at SMSU, he had the opportunity to serve in numerous capacities including teaching in the College of Business. He developed and taught numerous hospitality and business management courses (e.g., Microeconomics, Hotel and Resort Management, Introduction to Hospitality Management, etc.). Similarly, as an Associate professor at the University of Arkansas, he developed many courses including Hotel and Resort Management; Front Office Revenue Management; Design and Layout of Foodservice Facilities; Hospitality Operations and Financial Analysis; Meetings, Events and Conventions Management; etc. During this period, he gained additional perspectives on how to develop courses with the competences that are in high demand in the hospitality industry. He is the first to developed a Hospitality Operations and Financial Analysis course and book with a hands-on spread sheet modeling of financial analysis. Training on how to work effectively with spread sheets to resolve hospitality financial problems, generate financial statements, and how to develop budgets are all covered in the coursework. Similarly, he enhanced the Meetings, Events, and Convention Management course from a lecture-based presentation to a course that includes hands-on, student-centered, self-directed learning with a reflective writing component. He is very familiar with the importance of teaching, research, and service. In addition, he enjoys mentoring students and young professionals to be the best future leaders they can be.
